Over 8 weeks, participants and parents will:

  • Understand how tics work in the brain and body
  • Build self-awareness and recognize tic urges
  • Learn and practice individualized Competing Response (CR) strategies
  • Identify triggers and environmental influences
  • Strengthen emotional regulation and executive function
  • Build healthy and structured routines around exercise, nutrition, and sleep
  • Gain confidence in managing tics independently

By the end of the program, families will have a clear understanding of how to apply CBIT techniques at home and the confidence to continue progress beyond the group.

Sessions meet once a week for eight weeks, with each telehealth video session lasting about 60-75 minutes. A parent/guardian is expected to be present during each session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CBIT helpful if my child has anxiety, ADHD, or sensory needs?

Absolutely. Anxiety, ADHD, and sensory needs are common alongside tics, and CBIT strategies can be adapted to meet each individual’s needs. We work collaboratively to problem-solve any challenges and ensure CBIT is effective for every client.

Does CBIT make people suppress their tics?

No. CBIT teaches a systematic approach to interrupt the reinforcement process of a tic, helping to reduce the need to tic with consistent practice.

Does telehealth work for CBIT?

Yes—CBIT is highly effective via telehealth, often producing results equal to or better than in-person sessions, as clients practice in their natural environment. I have been providing telehealth CBIT since 2018 with excellent success, making it a convenient and effective option for both families and adults.

How long does it take to see progress?

Many clients notice changes within the first few weeks with consistent practice.

Do you work with insurance?

I do not directly bill insurance. This is a cash-based service; however, all major credit cards and HSA/FSA cards are accepted.
